Day 59 - And She's 7!

Today, my sweet girl turned 7 years old!  Happy birthday to the most charming, entertaining, full-of-life girl that I know, my daughter - Alexis!

And just because it's fun, here's a look at her at birth!

Day 58 - A New View

Alexis' eye is feeling much better - so much so that she wanted to take some pictures herself today...

Day 57 - Date Night

Tonight, 15 couples from our church went to a local restaurant.  We had a very nice time!  This is kind of a dorky picture, but oh well!

Day 56 - Surprise, Steph!

My in-laws decided to throw a surprise 25th birthday party for Stephanie tonight.  It was very fun. 

Day 55 - Celery

Today, Tyrus had an experiement in Science...  would celery turn red after being placed into a glass of red water?  Anyone know the answer?

Day 54 - We're Getting There

Alexis has done nothing but lay down, with her eyes shut, for the last three days.  Last night, she started perking up a bit!  Yay!  I took her back to the Dr last night and he said the mark on her eye looks just like a small scratch now, vs a big spot! 

Today, she's had enough energy to attempt some schoolwork, though I did not make her do any heavy reading.  She's a budding reader as it is, and has to really work to sound out some of the words, so I thought it best to give her a break from that. 

After lunch, her and Carsten thought it would be fun to pull out a Fancy Nancy puzzle and attempt it... and they got it!

Day 53 - Recovering

Alexis is healing, but she isn't feeling 100 % better yet.  She did say her pain scale was only a 6 last night (with 10 being the highest) vs. Saturday night when she said it was an 8... so we're getting somewhere.  Last night, the nurse suggested she wear sunglasses to help her eye not have to work so hard.  We've also tried dark areas which help, too.

Thankfully, the flu seems to have flow out of the window!  Hallelujah!  Appetites have returned once again!

Day 52 - Ketchup Smiles

I'm gagging just looking at the ketchup, but I know it makes my son happy, so I'll deal.  Ha!

So to make awful times really worse, Carsten also decided to jump on the Fever and Puking bandwagon last night. 

Day 51 - Hurt Girl

Yesterday, on our way to the tournament, Alexis accidently stuck her eye with the straw from her cup.  She was in pain all day yesterday, but was still a trooper and sat up at the quiz board.  When we got her home last night, I took her to the ER only to find out that the poor thing has a corneal abrasion.  They gave us some medicine with instructions to return again tomorrow night for a re-check. 

If the eye injury wasn't enough, Lex thought it would be fun to add in fever and puking to the mix.  She's been a mess today.  :(

Day 50 - Quizzing!

We were finally able to have our first quiz tournament today!  Tyrus and Alexis' team took 1st Place in the Beginner Division and Skylah & Isreal's team took 2nd Place in the Junior Division.  Tyrus was the highest scorer over all and Isreal came in third highest scorer!  I was so proud of them all!

Day 49 - Delicious Dylan

My sister dropped off her sweet boy with me for a few hours today.  He's just delicious, what can I say? 

Day 48 - Connections!

Today we joined a new group for homeschooling!  (We're still connected to the other ones, too, this is an addtional group.)  Anyway, it's super cool because there is a group for each kid, per age.  They do math games, art and gym each time we meet.  I'm so happy to be involved and only wish I'd have found it sooner!

Carsten thinks it's super cool to be in his class.  He didn't show one ounce of fear when I dropped him off.  Now, it might have had something to do with chocolate cupcakes for the Valentine's Day party, I'm not sure, but either way, I'm proud of my big boy!

Day 47 - Jungle Joe's

Today, a huge group of homeschool families all got together at our local bounce house.  It was a BLAST.  :)

Day 46 - Smoosh

We got into a little fender-bender last night.  Someone ran into the back of us while we were sitting at a light.  Thankfully, we are all okay.  Our car got a little ding in it, though.  Bummer.

Don't mind the filth of dirt and salt... I took this picture while waiting in the Car Wash line.  :)

Day 45 - Heart Day

Today is Valentine's Day.  Alexis kept asking me, "Is it ValentiMe's Day, or ValentiNe's Day?" 

We had a pretty chill day over all.  The kids opened up some Valentine's from Grandma Karen and we went out after a meal of spaghetti and garlic bread to get ice cream at our favorite local parlor.  It was a fun day!

Day 44 - Chef Steph!

My sister-in-law Stephanie starts a new job tomorrow at a local bakery.  Here she is tonight in her new Chef Whites. 

Day 43 - Cursive Begins!

Tyrus has been working for quite a while learning the formation of each letter in cursive.  Yesterday was his first time putting it all together to form sentences within a paragraph!  I'm so proud of him!

What an awesome promise!

Day 42 - Marshmallow Craft

My dear friend Melisa told me about this fun craft to do with the kids using pretzels and marshmallows.  It was so fun (and tasty, too!)
